The Victorian ICT for Women mentoring program contributes to our objective to support Retention and Progression for women in the ICT industry in Victoria. This is a free, value-add service for members to enable you to reach your ICT career and professional goals.
This program is designed to:
- assist the professional development of women in ICT
- provide the opportunity for ICT professionals to be a mentor and contribute to the ICT industry
- build confidence and self-esteem
- foster networking
Mentees(those being mentored) can nominate to be mentored on either ICT or leadership or a combination of both.
- Participation is free
- Mentors require experience in ICT &/or leadership roles and a desire to assist women in ICT to progress their careers
- The Mentor role is open to members and non-members.
- Mentees must be members of the Victorian ICT for Women Network.
To register please complete the questionnaire via the link above BEFORE February 1st, 2012. This will help to define your goals and potential areas of focus. The questionnaire will be the tool employed to assist us to ensure matches are as effective as possible.
All mentors and mentees are required to be available to attend an Induction Meeting - 5pm(for 5.30pm) to 7pm on Thursday 23rd February at Deloitte, 550 Bourke St, Melbourne (invitations will be sent early February).
Please note that this mentoring program is targeted at women currently working or who have recently been in the workforce rather than studying.
The Process
Prior to the Induction Event, mentees will be sent details on the available mentors and requested to nominate 3-4 preferred mentors. At the Induction Event a 'speed dating' process will be followed with the aim of introducing as many as possible selected mentors to the mentees. Before the end of the event, as many as possible mentor and mentees will be paired.
The program participants will determine their mode and frequency of contact for the duration of the program, although it is recommended that fortnightly communication be encouraged (either virtually or face to face). The participants will be encouraged to attend at least one Vic ICT for Women networking event together.
All mentees will be required to participate in a 'Check In' event to be held in June 2012.
Each month participants will be supplied with suggested mentoring topics for discussion in that month.
At the conclusion of the relationship the participants will be encouraged to attend an end-of-year networking function.
All participants will be asked to contribute to feedback on the program and process in November/December.
