Programming Challenge 4 Girls

Deakin University Burwood Campus

Thursday 17th August 2017

PC4G is an event designed to introduce computer programming to Year 9/10 secondary school girls. It seeks to provide an opportunity for girls to experience programming and to understand the rewarding challenges that are provided through the combination of logic, problem-solving and creativity.

Teams of 2 girls will complete a tutorial on the innovative 3D programming environment Alice (http://www.alice.org) and use their new found skills developing some fun animations in the morning. In the afternoon they will then create their own storyboard and develop their own animation.

Schools are encouraged to send at least two teams who should be accompanied by a teacher. Whilst the challenge is underway, teachers will have the opportunity to participate in professional development and familiarisation activities.

The Programming Challenge 4 Girls was first conducted in 2008 in Auckland New Zealand.  Based on an earlier (1988) initiative Young Women’s Programming Contest (YWPC),  it has grown to become a nationwide and international event.  Read more about the history of this event.

Vic ICT for Women encourages all of its members to promote participation by students from secondary colleges across metropolitan and regional areas.
