Vic ICT for Women Board Roles & Responsibilities

Chris Skipper-Conway

Chris Skipper-Conway (Chair)

My agenda is to see Australia have access to a more balanced and diverse workforce to ensure we have an IT industry in the future.
I am a passionate advocate of equal opportunity having grown up in South Africa at a time when minority groups were privileged and an overwhelming proportion of the general population was discriminated against.  I qualified as an Accountant and moved into Finance and then Project Management roles when I came to Australia. I worked in both the Public and Private Sector in Canberra and moved to Recruitment following an extensive project engagement with Defence.

After 3 years in the US, I returned to Australia and was CEO for an IT Managed Services provider in Canberra before moving to Melbourne. As Victorian General Manager of GMT People I continued with my passion – matching people and IT requirements, and nurturing candidates’ career growth.

I took on the CEO role at GMT in 2012 after and then purchased the business outright in November 2012.  I have over 20 years in Recruitment with IT recruitment being my passion. I have a particular interest in Diversity generally given the largely untapped opportunity it presents to industry and individuals.

I joined Vic ICT for Women as I felt passionate about the opportunity to remedy the issue of Gender Diversity in IT and particularly given I was experiencing the lack of females remaining in the Industry here in Victoria.

Editor’s Note: In June 2013, Chris was honoured as ICT Woman of the Year at the iAwards recognition event.
